Square Footage: 125,000
Completion: 2006
As an employee of Austin AECOM, Todd Heirls was responsible for
Project Management and participated in project design for the 125,000
square foot remote production facility for The Advocate. This facility
replaced the existing structures which did not offer expansion
opportunities and the flexibility required to take the operation into the
future. The selected site was masterplanned to allow for a doubling in
size as well as provide visibility of the building from a major highway
serving the Central Business District.
Project services included planning, programming, design and
construction administration. The new facility contains warehousing,
production, packaging and distribution areas required to serve a remote
DC network. An on site distribution center was also incorporated.
Todd Heirls worked closely with the owners planning team and the
equipment vendor’s engineers to coordinate and integrate the selected
production and packaging equipment. The facility incorporated MAN
Roland Regioman double wide presses, GMA SLS-3000 inserters, and
Schur palletizes. Roll handling was accomplished through MAN
Roland’s manual stripping station and roll track.
